Team Summary

* Extracted from Fairport’s Hourglass Yearbooks, unless noted otherwise.

At the outset of the season, prospects did not look bright for the young Varsity squad, but as the season progressed the Raiders improved. The Raiders entered the annual Rush-Henrietta Tournament with a fine 4-2 record. With an impressive 53-52 win over a strong Lyons team on the opening night of the tournament, the Raiders earned their way into the finals. Good team work and excellent foul shooting gave the Raiders a 62-47 victory and the tournament championship. Jim Cross was voted Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

The Raiders, with the momentum gained in the Christmas Tournament, have swept through their league schedule with only one loss so far, and that to a very experienced East Rochester team. With four games left the Raiders find themselves in second place, two games ahead of their nearest opponent. This means that another fine Raider team will be entering the sectional play.

The team has been led by high-scoring forward Jim Cross, playmaking guard Joe Memmo, defensive whiz Bob Herzog, hot handed forward Paul Wiedrick, and rebounder Bill Shearer.
