Team Summary

* Extracted from Fairport’s Hourglass Yearbooks, unless noted otherwise.

The soft swish of the ball through the net and the rhythmic tapping of a fast dribble have been the lure for a host of basketball fans during the past season as the Fairport quintet completed its most successful season in recent years.

As the season began Fairport was a top-heavy favorite for last place in the Monroe County League. However as the weeks went by. the big, fast Red and Blue five began to lose some of its greeness and in the final total rested securely in third place.

Throughout the year the team showed potential brilliance which failed to click consistently only because of the inexperience of all except Captain Mike Beato who gained individual honor as the league’s second high scorer and as a member of the All-County team. The Fairport team was always a threat in every game, whether it was against the League leaders or the cellar dwellers. As proof that they played high class basketball, Fairport crowds outnumbered those of their opponents in almost every game whether at home or abroad.

With ten out of eleven first team men returning next year and capable men coming up from the second team, the prospects for next season seem very encouraging. Coach Cummings will have eight men over six feet tall who possess experience in league games.
