Team Summary

* Extracted from Fairport’s Hourglass Yearbooks, unless noted otherwise.

Basketball season is a blessing for many players who participate in the sport. Some players have had to wait a year before they could get back on the court and compete, while others get a chance to come inside, from the cold of fall sports.

The practices during the season don’t let up. We did more running during the mid-season than before the games got started. Coach Fitch is constantly trying to keep us in shape. Practices are difficult because they are hard to get psyched up for. After a long day at school, you’re ready to go home, relax, and finish homework, but you have to respond to the call of practice. Once things get started, practice can be fun and exciting. Some of the most comical things will happen there.

The entire focus of the player, which starts at practices, is put into the game. The thrill of playing in front of a crowded gymnasium is unmatchable, though there are times when there is only a small crowd and little excitement. Either way, a player must perform with the same intensity and emotion. Players have their ups and downs, but the dedicated players will work to eliminate the downs, and have a consistent performance. The effort a player puts into the off-season, and regular season pays off when the numbers in the win column keep increasing.

Each team wants the sectional title, but it takes more than a few talented players, it takes a talented team, that plays well together and is willing to give the effort. The basketball season is a time when a whole lot of effort, time and thought goes into twenty or more games. It brings together twelve guys who have to get along and work together. This is a sport that may look easy, especially to the fans, but it takes maximum effort to be a great player, and that is something every player wants.
