As usual, the boys’ varsity basketball team had a great season, capturing the Monroe County East crown for the second year in a row and finishing ninth in the Democrat and Chronicle newswriters poll. Propelled by a balanced attack, the Raiders lost only two games during the regular season, one to East and one to Mendon (a loss which was later avenged). With center Kurt Fox as the only returning starter, most did not give the Raiders a chance to retain their crown. However, the teamwork and balance among Fox, Mike Hutchings, Dan Lynch, Scott Waasdorp, Dave Rizzo, and 6th man Dave Yawman more than compensated for the lack of experience. The Raiders compiled a 17-3 record and lost in the Section V Class AAA quarter-finals to eventual champion Franklin.
