Faced with limited practice sessions while a new gym floor was being finished, an unconditioned team, led by co-captains Bucher and Myers, lost a one point decision to Irondequoit. But hopes were not down and the team slowly reached its peak, sporting a four game winning streak. Then Brighton jolted all hopes as they won by 4 points. Following a long way off, the Red and Blue faced their rivals, East Rochester. It was a thrilling see-saw contest until the opposition’s superior condition turned the game into a walkaway in the last quarter.
At the start of the second half, Fairport’s spirit began to decline after a hard-fought loss to Webster. The final blow came when the team lost a one point verdict to Brighton when it scored a basket in the last seconds. At the end of the season Co-Captain Fran Myers was awarded a spot on the All-County team.
However, with a good number of veteran players returning and promising second team men showing up, hopes for next year are quite high.
