As for basketball, our won and lost record wasn’t so good as it might have been. In fact we didn’t win any league games and ended the season in the league cellar. But in spite of statistics we had a good team, in fact the “fightingest” team that had cavorted the Fairport hardwood in years. The draft, illness, and other factors too took their toll and Coach McGinn had so many different starting lineups that no one could keep track of them. At one time he had as many as three freshmen start the game.
We finished the season with a record of 7 wins and 10 losses, so you see Fairport hasn’t entirely lost the winning habit. One ill-fated night Brighton caught us with several regulars missing and administered the worst drubbing Fairport has absorbed in several years, but the Red and Blue never lost that old Fairport spirit and were battling just as hard at the end of the game as at the beginning. Nor did they become discouraged after that game. In fact they went on and played their best ball of the season in the late games. When Brighton came to play a return game at Fairport they really had to extend themselves to win.
While the varsity had a fairly successful season the junior varsity proved to be anything light. They won most of their games and played a brand of basketball that has loyal fans waiting for next season with their tongues hanging out. Several sophomores and freshmen showed great varsity promises.
The information presented on this page has been sourced from different mediums and is intended to be as accurate as possible. We based our overall Win/Loss records on all games played, rather than league vs. non-league, division vs. non-division, etc. Therefore we have situations where the Team Summary may mention a different Win/Loss record. We have noted any known inaccuracies and/or gaps in this team’s data below. (NR – means “Not Reported”)
